 Interview With Chris Grainger

After dominating the domestic touring car scene with his Yokomo BD Chris Grainger now switches to Schumacher to mount his 2009 domestic challenge, many we see this move as a surprise, so we spoke to Chris to get the inside track on his change of team for 2009.

Well Chris lets start with the obvious question, why the change for 2009

Changing teams and leaving Yokomo and CML was probably the hardest decision I have ever made, they both mean a lot to me as a team and Friends. Apart from one year at Xray, and one at Associated I have been With Yokomo since 97 ish when Wide TC started!! And in the last 4 years the Yokomo BD has been fantastic to me, and its because of Yokomo and trips to Japan I met Mika my beautiful Girlfriend, (at least 2 brownie points there)

The reason for joining Schumacher is that I want to have more of a direct input into the development of the car, This was always difficult at Yokomo due to them being the other side of the world! With Schumacher being just up the road, sort of! In Northampton, and being a British company, working with them should be good. And I really feel I can help Schumacher in the TC side of things, and Schumacher can help me...

What are your aspirations and goals with your new team

We will have to wait and see, as I write this I have not even built a car! I try never to expect too much at the start of a year or have a plan, I just go to each race intending to give 100 percent, I will do my best to retain my National title, and hopefully a good showing at the Euros.

Do you have any knowledge of the Mi3 and can we expect to see changes to the car during 2009

Nope not really, I have looked at the car before and seen it go well, but not paid much attention, I Try to always do my own thing to be honest. As for new stuff to come, I know Schumacher like all the top teams are always developing and moving forward. We will have to wait and see, at the moment I don't even know there old stuff let alone new.

Tell us a little bit about your life outside of racing and your long term racing / family plans

Outside of racing is busy at the moment; I work for my Dad in a family Business that he has just put all in my name! he plans to retire soon!! bit scary but should be ok Me and Mika are also trying for a family, so its all going on at the moment. So who knows how much longer I will be racing, but for sure I still love it and don't plan to stop to soon

Anything else you want to add

I would like to take this opportunity to Thank CML, Jason Varley, Dave Duggan and all the others there, and Also Yokomo, Tom, Masami, Umino and Robert. All top people, thanks for some great year’s guys...

So there you go, it should be interested to see how Chris goes this year, I know the Schumacher team will be delighted to have him on board and they will look to him to drive the results this year...Just another interesting twist that makes this season so interesting.
